Schisandra/Schisandra chinensis

It is often referred to as ‘five flavored spice” because it has five types of flavor (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, umami).

Schisandra berries are first soaked in menstruum and then thoroughly extracted. Soaking protects oils and preserves flavor.
