P-5-P by Seeking Health provides 25 mg of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (P-5-P), known as the "active" or "coenzyme" form of vitamin B6, in an easy-to-swallow vegetarian capsule. Vitamin B6 is important as a coenzyme for the normal metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates and lipids. It is also involved in healthy cognitive development, immune health and homocysteine conversion. The P-5-P form of B6 is directly used in B6-dependent enzyme functions in the body. In fact, vitamin B6 and P-5-P are needed for more than 100 enzyme reactions - mostly related to protein metabolism. In a typical diet, B6 can be found in potatoes, poultry, fortified grains and cereals, salmon and avocados. However, many plant sources contain a less bioavailable form of B6 - pyridoxine glucoside. This form may be more difficult to absorb and utilize than the forms found in meat, fish, poultry or certain supplements. Especially for those who eat a mostly vegan or vegetarian diet, B6 supplementation can be very important.*
